We train participants from different backgrounds in to spread knowledge about the impact of art and encourage art activities across the Arab world.

Aflamuna, in partnership with Filmlab Palestine, hosts a local session of the Impact Industry Lab / Palestine and announces the opening of submissions for film projects as well as for individual participants.

The Local Impact Lab in Arabic, or the Impact Industry Lab, is an interactive, participatory activity that extends over five days and aims to identify the impact distribution practices adopted in various countries of the world, assess the implications of this on the local film industry, and form a new professional profession in the world of cinema, known as “impact producer”.

We announce the opening of applications for directors, producers, distributors, campaign organizers, marketing specialists & more.

The art of impact and the impact of art

The Impact Industry model was designed by the Duke Society at its headquarters in the UK. It aims to work on building a community concerned with documentaries by creating bridges between film directors on the one hand, major institutions, non-governmental associations, policy makers, philanthropists and the media on the other hand, with the aim of activating the treatment of community and environmental issues related to films, creating new partnerships and training qualified individuals to become “ Impact Producers. Impact producers work to move the film campaign from the production stage to impact, by creating an impact campaign that they supervise all stages of its implementation and securing key partners to support it.

At a time of disintegration of the traditional methods of financing and distributing documentaries, an emerging generation of filmmakers aspires to find new ways to put their documentaries at the service of social change.

Through the regional and local influence industry laboratories, we are witnessing the birth of a network of producers and influence campaigns in the Arab countries. Independent Arab films continue to address complex issues such as gender, individual and public freedoms, wars, revolutions, and social groups from minorities, which makes them a tool for communication and dialogue within society itself and enables it to make an effective societal impact through its partnerships with civil society.

The Impact Industry Labs, especially the local ones, create an interactive relationship between films and civil society and work to create bridges for films to reach new audiences and engage civil society actors on the relevant issues they represent.

Local IMPACT LAB Arabic – Palestine The Impact Lab will include a select group of 15 participants and up to 4 film projects, who want to become impact producers in the Arab world. Those eligible to participate in this local course are: Palestinians residing in Palestine or abroad.

During this lab, we seek to guide the participants and work with them to find the most effective influence strategy to achieve their film campaigns, by presenting through the theories and practices of influence through documentaries and case studies related to their projects.

The lab will also allow time and space to share details of individual projects, creative ambitions, and impact goals.

After a comprehensive introduction to the various sections included in the practical guide to making an impact, the participants exchange ideas and proposals in brainstorming sessions in which the proposed film projects are discussed. During the workshops, the team of each participating film identifies its needs and draws a roadmap for its impactful vision and what it aspires to in terms of impact objectives.

There are multiple methods of societal change, from empowering communities directly or indirectly to forming a lobby of legal activists, and organizing awareness campaigns to deliver and disseminate information to the public.

this big idea

The Impact Labs are at the very heart of the Good Pitch
A four day immersive workshop where selected filmmakers and participants pour over case studies and dissect effective strategies for using independent film as a tool for social change.
Working with the Good Pitch Outreach team, and with the help of their fellow participants, the selected filmmakers imagine how their film could be put to the service of movements and reach audiences that matter.
We are also using the labs to train a new generation of Impact Producers, the team responsible for maximizing a film’s potential for social change.
These are individuals from the worlds of film production and distribution, campaigning, journalism, legal and marketing & PR. A new professional class, the Impact Producer’s role varies based on the film content and defined distribution goals, but often includes overseeing a combination of strategy development, issue mapping, braintrust facilitation, semi-theatrical screening facilitation, organizational partnership development and management, digital content production and engagement, and evaluation and impact measurement.
