Maskoon — which means haunted in Arabic — is
the only festival in the region focusing exclusively on modern genre films,
bringing the best horrors, thrillers, fantasy and action films from around the globe to Beirut and the Arab World. It aims to catalyse the growth of Arab genre film and to explore its growing social and political relevance.
Maskoon debuted in 2016 and has screened the Arab premieres of many
acclaimed international films and hosted many guests who attended to present their films, public masterclass, industry panels and cine concerts
such as composer Fabio Frizzi, filmmakers Can Evrenol, Eric Valette, Marco Dutra, Juliana Rojas, Alexandre Philippe, Abdelhamid Bouchnak, Damien Ounouri, Serge Bromberg, actress Violetta Schurawlow, festival programmers and directors Evrim Ersoy, Anais Emery, Thierry Phlips, Karel Och, Nicole McControversy, Mike Hostench, Gerald Duchaussoy, SFX and VFX artists Dan Frye, Chadi Abo, poster designer Laurent Durieux
Maskoon has also forged strong collaborations with other acclaimed international fantastic film festivals like Fantastic Fest Austin, Fantasia, Sitges International Film Festival, Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival.
In 2018, Maskoon became the first festival in the Middle East to be welcomed as a member of the European Fantastic Film Festivals Federation.
